Inca Trail Machu Pichu

Wednesday 14th we left Cusco, at 6:00, for the Inca trail. 4 days with a group of 10 hikers, 4 from Belgium, 3 from Holland and 3 from Australie. Nice folks. We had 2 guides (Chris and Maria) and 12 porters. Everything was perfect. We only had to walk, carry our own backpack, listen to the 'Inca lessons', look around and enjoy. The meals were like in the best restaurants. We slept with two in a three persons tent. Whether was very good. We had only one night and half a morning rain. Normally it should rain the whole day nowadays. The trail is not complicated, but quite heavy because of the altitude and the steep staircases. The highest point is 4200 m and there are a few lower passes. In total 42 km. The trail has 5700 steps, Machu Picchu has about 3000 steps. It was planned as a 4 day trip, on the 4th day only 2 hours and further that day a visit to Machu Picchu. Plans changed a little bit, because the last camping site appeared to be overbooked. So we combined the last 2 days in one day and slept in a restaurant in Aguas Calientes. After that we went back to Machu Pichu the last day. We had many beautiful moments (Dead womans pass, 4200 m, the Sungate arrival in Machu Pichu with a beautiful view). Today we got our guided tour around Machu Pichu. Very interesting. Last night I had the honour (I am the oldest and nobody dares) to thank the porters in my best spanish. It was not so bad. Tomorrow I will leave for the jungle, so probably I can upload the pictures only after this trip.
